April 24 -- Easter Sunday

I, Zack, am writing today but I'll follow Isaac's format. Our official Road Trip quote is "Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." - Miriam Beard.

This morning we woke up, comfortably sleeping in our car, again to the sound of Isaac's math-problem alarm clock at about 8am. Once we were fully awake and had properly rearranged everything we set out on the road to Oklahoma City. Isaac drove the whole way, he seems to be slowly learning how to drive stick. I just hope he doesn't kill the clutch in his acquisition of the skill. It was only about a 3 hour drive from Wichita to OKC so we got there around noon. The original plan was to go directly to my grandparents house but they were in church so we decided to go to my aunt's house where my family was planning to have lunch later. Mike, my uncle, let us in after he figured out who I was (apparently I've grown considerably since I was last down here because a lot of the family had trouble recognizing me).

After about an hour the rest of my family showed up, basically the whole of my dad's side of the family. Sixteen of us, plus about a half a dozen kids, had easter lunch (after an easter egg hunt of course), and then sat around talking and watching Dinosaur. It was nice getting to see family that I hadn't in a few years and I hope Isaac didn't feel too awkward in a house full of people he'd never met. After a few hours there, and a bunny shaped cake that I thought was delicious, Isaac and I followed my grandparents back to their place and got the playhouse (I'll post pictures later, it's too dark to take them now) ready for our short stay with a remarkably large amount of baggage. Remarkable not only for the duration of our stay but for the size of my car.

We both took a short nap and then had a nice dinner of pizza and brownies. Now we're both sitting in the playhouse scheduling for days to come and reflecting on the day that passed (less sentimentally than might be expected).

Interesting Observations:

The Roads beyond Colorado are flat, extremely so. It's quite a change of pace from the up, down, left, right and snowy roads in the high elevations of Colorado to the flat and straight roads of Kansas and Oklahoma.

My family really likes kids, or at least having them. Everyone but me at lunch had children
(though not in all cases were they directly my family members children) and in most cases more than one. Also I'm somewhat afraid of children.

We have a storm following us. Oklahoma has apparently been in somewhat of a drought for the last few months but upon our arrival it started raining. There's supposed to be around a foot of rainfall in parts of the state by the end of the storm.

Oh and I love my phone. We're pretty close to the city limit of OKC with no wi-fi nearby and yet here we sit: surfing, listening and playing all thanks to my phone. God Bless technology.
